Desktop dining and other positive signs of growth

About 62 percent of professionals claim they typically eat lunch at their desk, according to the New York Times, while another study's findings report one in four Americans never bring a lunch from home to the office. Since I'm one of those who never remembers to pack a lunch (skip a meal? I don't think so) delivery or picking lunch up is a common occurrence. And I'm not alone. Our cartoon this month may be a bit premature, but as we continue to delve into the food on demand market, the evidence appears overwhelmingly strong that delivery and convenience are here to stay. The challenge is how to make what the consumer is demanding profitable for the food provider. Ordermark Nabs $9.5 Million Investment

Ordermark, a fast growing provider of online ordering solutions for restaurants, announced the close of a $9.5M Series A funding round. Led by Nosara Capital, the latest round brings in new investors including Vertical Venture Partners, Techstars Ventures, Riverpark Ventures, and Matchstick Ventures-joined by prior investors including TenOneTen, Mucker Capital, Act One Ventures and AARD Capital.
McDonald's, Wendy's Check Sizes Doubling with Delivery

As McDonald's and Wendy's continue expanding third-party delivery at a growing number of locations, the mega-chain restaurants are reporting average check sizes 1.5 to two times higher than traditional, dine-in customers according to a new report from Stephens.
