San Francisco-based location data platform Mapbox announced the public preview launch of doorway-level entrance data Feb.3, promising that the capability helps address the “final meter” problem for delivery.
The new entrance data guides drivers toward the correct door, not simply the address, and is available for more than 100 million addresses in the United States. According to a Feb. 2 press release, the feature enhances arrival accuracy for delivery, logistics and ride-hailing applications by allowing routing to within 5 meters of a designated building entrance.
Mapbox’s new doorway-level data accounts for common building entrances, reducing time spent circling blocks, seeking access points, and conducting failed drop-offs.
Cherie Wong, senior vice president at Mapbox, described the new capability as offering a solution to what is possibly deliveries’ greatest headache: navigating the final 10 meters. Mapbox data analysis of on-demand logistics customer feedback reveals that 70 percent of failed deliveries within the final 100 meters occur in the final 10 meters.
“Doorway-level entrance data helps solve one of the most persistent challenges in delivery and ride-hailing: knowing exactly where to be,” Wong said in a press release. “Instead of ending navigation with just ‘you have arrived,’ companies can guide drivers to the right spot—the door that actually matters.”
When the “entraces” parameter is enabled, Mapbox Geocoding API provides specific locations for building addresses, converting addresses into geographic coordinates. In contrast to a generic destination pin placed at the center of a building, the entrance data offers developers turn-by-turn navigation, accounting for the best path for approaching a building and where to stop.

Mapbox entrance data pinpoints precise doorway locations, even in complex structures.
“Entrance data has saved our drivers time. They spend less time searching and more time setting up,” says Chris Heffernan, CEO at dlivrd. “Delivery times are down 7 percent, support questions are resolved 25 percent faster —and many never reach us at all.”
Mapbox provides flexible location services capable of scaling with demand and adapting to real-world arrival scenarios to delivery platforms, logistics providers and mobility companies.
Throughout the public preview, entrance data is included with Mapbox Geocoding API at no extra charge, according to information on Mapbox’s website. Entrance data is available in public preview in the U.S., with expansion coming soon.
