Schnuck Markets is leaning on tech to streamline the shopper experience. The Midwest grocery chain is rolling out Instacart’s Carrot Tag electronic shelf-label software chainwide.

The Carrot Tags ‘pick-to-light’ function allows shoppers and store associates to select an item using the Instacart Shopper app, which then causes the corresponding shelf label to flash.

The lighting feature makes for convenient and quick identification of the correct product. Customers can also scan a QR code to find out if an item is eligible for EBT SNAP, among other features.

Additionally, Carrot Tags will soon connect to Caper Carts, Instacart’s smart grocery cart.

Bob Hardester, Chief Information & Supply Chain Officer at Schnucks, said that Carrot Tags will be an integral part of their omnichannel approach, especially once they are connected to the smart carts.

“From electronic shelf label software to smart carts to an e-commerce platform, Instacart’s technologies help us meet our customers, no matter how they choose to shop,” Hardester said.

Schnucks first partnered with Instacart in 2017 and now utilizes a host of its omnichannel offerings such as Storefront, Carrot Ads, and Eversight.

David McIntosh, VP and GM of Connected Stores at Instacart, said that Schnucks is the first retail partner to use Carrot Tags’ pick to light functionality chainwide. He added that the partnership has resulted in an increase in found rates, which leads to higher customer satisfaction.

“Schnucks has long served as a leading-edge partner for Instacart, especially when it comes to adopting our Connected Stores technologies like Caper Carts and Eversight,” McIntosh said. “We look forward to building the future of grocery alongside Schnucks for years to comes.”
