As sticker shock continues for many U.S. consumers due to elevated inflation, Uber has rolled out a host of new features designed to save consumers time and money—including the ability for SNAP recipients to use their benefits to order fresh groceries directly through the Uber Eats app.

Uber declined to offer a specific date, but said the SNAP/EBT benefits will go live at some point in 2024. The change is designed to improve access to quality food for seniors, those with disabilities or transportation barriers, and anyone living in food deserts across the country.

The company is also working with Managed Medicaid and Medicare Advantage plans to support benefits that help members stay healthy, including accepting FSA Cards, Flex Cards and relevant waiver payments on Uber. Select payment methods will also debut at some point in 2024.

To help anyone discover and order anything with ease, Uber is also launching a new AI-powered conversational shopping experience that will begin later this year. It will allow customers to chat with an AI assistant to check out new dishes and cuisines, find deals at restaurants, and enable easy reordering of favorite meals to help save money and time.

The AI assistant will also help consumers develop a meal plan and find sales on grocery items.

Lastly, Uber’s new Sales Aisle section is designed to make it easy to find ways to save money close to your location. It will combine promos and deals into one convenient space, saving consumers the hassle of long searches through the app.
