Chick-fil-A is making it even easier for Boston to get their chicken fix.
The chain recently opened a delivery-only kitchen out of the CloudKitchens space in Roxbury’s Newmarket Foodhub. Translation: no dining room or drive-thru, just a spot dedicated to fulfilling delivery orders all over the city through apps like DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub.
Called Chick-fil-A Boston Delivery, it will run Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. It’s being led by Matt DeMichele-Rigoni, who also runs Chick-fil-A Copley Square. He’s been with the brand since he was 15, worked his way up through the company’s leadership program, and took over the Copley location in 2022.
“I am incredibly grateful to open this delivery-focused kitchen, where we can provide our guests with even greater convenience and accessibility to their Chick-fil-A favorites,” DeMichele-Rigoni said in a statement. “By dedicating this CloudKitchens space to delivery, we’re not only better serving our guests, but also significantly increasing our capacity to serve delicious food more efficiently. We’re thrilled about the opportunity to continue serving Boston with the same quality and care our guests have come to expect.”
CloudKitchens itself has had quite the journey—founded by former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, the company rents out shared kitchen space to restaurants looking to expand delivery without the cost of a full dining room.
The model boomed during the pandemic, when delivery demand skyrocketed, but growth has since cooled. It’s been both hyped and scrutinised over the years, but it’s still serving as a launchpad for delivery growth in cities.
Chick-fil-A has been steadily building out its delivery game since it first partnered with DoorDash back in 2018. The company has since experimented with all kinds of new tech to make it happen—like testing delivery robots and drones.
The Boston opening also comes with some local impact. Chick-fil-A is donating $25,000 to the Greater Boston Food Bank with the intent to add about 25–30 new jobs, and team up with nonprofits to redirect surplus food.
Meanwhile, over at Copley Square, the restaurant will be getting a facelift later this fall. Expect a refreshed front counter and new pickup areas.
