Wonder, Marc Lore’s fast-growing restaurant platform, is testing robot delivery for the first time.

It’s happening through Grubhub, which Wonder acquired earlier this year and autonomous vehicle maker Avride. Customers ordering from the Jersey City location can choose a robot drop-off if they’re within range.

Avride is deploying its most advanced delivery robots to date, guided by AI-powered autonomous driving technology. The company states it is equipped with a precision-engineered four-wheel chassis, capable of 180-degree turns, and works well in challenging urban environments.

For Grubhub, the partnership expands its autonomous delivery efforts beyond college campuses. It’s worked with Starship Technologies since 2021 to serve universities across the country and previously tested Avride robots at the University of Arizona.

“By combining Grubhub’s marketplace, Wonder’s culinary innovation, and Avride’s advanced robotics, we’re delivering the future of convenience,” said PJ Poykayil, SVP of customer delivery operations at Wonder and Grubhub.

Avride, based in Austin, also powers Uber Eats’ robot deliveries in Jersey City, where the fleet now covers more than 100 restaurants, including Shake Shack. The company recently raised $375 million from Uber and AI firm Nebius to scale operations.

Wonder currently operates more than 75 locations, part of its push to expand across the Northeast.
