Uber Eats announced a new “Live Location Sharing” feature for customers. This option allows consumers to share their location with delivery couriers for a fixed amount of time.

The feature was designed to help couriers navigate potentially challenging delivery locations, such as parks and playgrounds. Live Location Sharing is available via the app when consumers place a “meet outside” or “meet at door” order on the Uber Eats app.

Live Location Sharing was created to combat the almost 10 percent of Uber Eats deliveries that are marked as “hard-to-find.”

Divya Dalapathi, Director of Product Management at Uber, said they are excited to offer location sharing via Uber Eats to ensure order reliability. “After launching the feature on Uber rides and seeing great success, we knew that building this feature on Uber Eats would be a game changer— especially for consumers who order from tricky to navigate locations like office buildings, parks, and large apartment complexes,” she said.

The feature sends users a notification that their location will be shared with their courier. Users have the option to not share their location for a particular order as well as never share it. Location is only shared when users are within 100m of the order dropoff location and when the courier is three minutes away.  The feature stops once the order has been delivered.

The new feature is available for all global Uber Eats markets excluding Quebec.
