Golden Corral is adapting to the times. The chain has opened a new fast-causal concept dubbed “Golden Corral Favorites” in Southern Pines, North Carolina.

The 4,200 square foot restaurant will serve a pared-down version of the brand’s familiar menu, in a format designed for quicker service and convenience.

The location features a scaled down dine-in area, a pickup section for online and third-party delivery orders and a drive-thru, as well as enhanced digital ordering options and family-style takeout meals.

The interior setup resembles other fast-casual models, with a walk-up counter similar to what diners see at a Chipotle.

“Golden Corral Favorites is all about honoring what our guests continue to return for: delicious, wholesome food at an incredible value, while adapting to how people want to dine today,” said CEO Lance Trenary in a statement. “This new format builds on the strength of our brand and brings our core menu into a more convenient and technology-forward setting.”

The move reflects a broader trend among legacy restaurant chains exploring new models to keep pace with shifting dining habits. Perkins launched its Griddle & Go format, a notable move away from its traditional full-service hub. Meanwhile brands are experimenting with dedicated spinoffs. KFC opened Saucy, for example, a modernized concept focused on appealing to digital and on-the-go consumers.

“Golden Corral Favorites is a natural progression for our brand,” said Jason Kornosky, VP of operations. “It’s not about starting over, it’s about evolving with purpose.”

Golden Corral was founded in 1973 and operates over 350 restaurants, most of which are locally owned and run by independent franchisees.
