ezDispatch Targets Catering-specific Delivery Orders

Business catering marketplace ezCater recently launched ezDispatch, a new offering that connects restaurants and caterers to third-party delivery companies in their area. Restaurants can opt to use ezDispatch to book catering delivery on a per-order basis or can automatically rely on ezDispatch for every ezCater order. Those with their own delivery fleet can use ezDispatch to increase capacity when they need it, and for operators without delivery the service enables them to tap into a new channel without investing in a delivery fleet. The service is now available in 50 major markets including Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington D.C., with plans for 100 markets by the end of the year.

Postmates Unveils Economic Impact Report

Delivery company Postmates unveiled its 2018 economic impact report, the highlights of which include some big, big numbers.

According to the report, Postmates has created $6.6 billion in economic activity across all sales, courier earnings and (incremental) merchant sales growth. That breaks down to $1.2 billion in annual revenue in 2017, that put $216.8 million into the pockets of gig-economy workers.

The average delivery driver was paid $18.32 an hour in 2017. To earn that, drivers have traveled the distance between the Earth and moon 212 times since the company started. Their work contributes to a .9 percent lift in employment growth compared to non-Postmates markets.

Celebrity Chef Goes Delivery-Only

In a story in Food & Wine, Eric Greenspan, the host of Eric Greenspan Is Hungry on the National Geographic channel, talks about the move that keeps him really, really busy.

In his concept, The B.E.C., he delivers New York City-style bodega breakfast sandwiches via UberEats, Postmates and soon Grubhub. Even just seven menu items coming out of his tiny 250-square-foot kitchen keeps Greenspan vulgarly busy but also vulgarly happy. He also has plans for six other concepts concept out of the same tiny space.

Freshii and Shell Partner to Serve Canadians on the Go

Shell Canada has partnered with Freshii to offer Canadians healthy and convenient meal, snack and juice options at select Shell gas station locations across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The partnership’s first phase will place Freshii at 25 GTA Shell sites each selling more than 20 Freshii on-the-go menu items. This phase will also see three flagship locations with a full Freshii restaurant. To tap into other nearby fresh food seekers, all locations will offer mobile ordering and fast delivery to any home or office.

Globally, Shell has more than 43,000 retail sites in close to 80 countries, and serves 30 million customers every day. In Canada, there are just over 1,300 Shell branded retail sites across the country.

“The bold steps Shell has taken to accomplish their goal—driving half of their revenue from non-petrol by 2025 with a pillar around health and wellness—makes us very optimistic about the way we can build on this partnership in the years to come,” says Freshii Founder and CEO Matthew Corrin.
