Everyone has heard the joke about a food tasting like chicken. But according to Grubhub’s annual 2024 Delivered Trend Report, the joke is on us as nearly 40 percent of its restaurant orders this year did taste like chicken, because they were chicken. Poultry dishes represented the most popular category in delivered foods and not just in restaurant deliveries but grocery store deliveries, where chicken outpaced beef by three to one.
For the office crowd, one entrée proved irresistible: burrito bowls. Corporate Chipotle lunch orders increased by 27 percent this year, with burrito bowls, many of them including chicken, leading the way.
In a trend fueled this year by social media influencers, Grubhub reported that it delivered more than a ton of cottage cheese orders.
Grubhub saw a 53 percent increase in corporate coffee orders, which can be attributed to return-to-office policies and coffee badging.
Coffee deliveries were big on campuses, especially during winter mid-terms. February was the top month, up nearly a third compared to other months.
Students on the East Coast ordered the most coffee. The top five colleges were:
- Pace University
- West Chester University
- Syracuse University
- University of Rochester
- Rowan University
Conversely, the universities that ordered the most decaf were:
- Fordham University
- California State University Fullerton
- University of Massachusetts Lowell
- University of Illinois Chicago
- WashU
With convenience-store orders, made-to-order hot dogs, bananas and sodas topped the list, with Dr. Pepper emerging as the most-ordered soda.
