DoorDash is known for third-party delivery but that’s not all it offers to operators. It’s recently announced a suite of AI-powered tools for assistance with photos and menu optimization.

The tools include an AI-powered camera, which enables restaurants to capture professional-quality food photos and an item-description generator.

“At DoorDash, we believe AI should make life easier for restaurants,” said Arpit Dhariwal, head of product, merchant acquisition and growth at DoorDash, in a statement. “We offer tools that use automation to enhance the guest experience while keeping the operator’s unique touch front and center.”

DoorDash’s item-description generator uses inputs such as item names and existing photos to craft menu descriptions in seconds.

“Writing menu descriptions used to be a real chore,” said Steve Rezvani, owner at Driftwood Deli & Market, in a statement. “The descriptions are more engaging than what I used to write, and we’ve seen an uptick in orders for items with descriptions.”

An estimated 38 percent of customers use menu photos to decide which restaurant they want to order from, and restaurants have seen a 44 percent increase in monthly sales for menus with item photos, according to DoorDash. Its camera uses AI computer vision to help merchants take shots. With real-time feedback on framing and lighting, and an ability to provide background enhancements, DoorDash makes it easy for an operator to produce and present professional-quality images.
