From limited-time value deals aimed at satisfying guests amid Independence Day festivities to menu innovation that would bring a tear to Uncle Sam’s eyes, restaurant operators across the industry channeled a sense of patriotism into their July 4 promotions.
With the United States approaching its 250th anniversary this weekend, here are a handful of unique approaches restaurant brands and other foodservice operators are bringing to celebrate the nation’s Semiquincentennial.
Burger King

This Independence Day, Burger King is offering its signature menu item, the “Whopper,” for $2.50 on July 4 only.
To commemorate America’s quarter-millennium milestone, Burger King is offering its staple menu item, the “Whopper”, for $2.50, available on July 4 only, according to promotional information shared by the brand.
The deal represents a discount of approximately 60 percent relative to standard menu pricing in many U.S. markets.
The burger giant also whipped up a new dessert for the holiday, the “Firecracker Cookie Pie.” According to a June 2 press release, the new offering adopted a particularly patriotic aesthetic, topped with red, white and blue sprinkles.
Chip City

Throughout July, Chip City Cookies is offering two “Chewie” for $2.50 with purchases of at least $10.
Chip City, a New York City-based cookie operation with nearly 40 locations across six states, also rolled out a price-slashing discount and America-inspired LTOs this July.
Throughout July, the brand is celebrating 250 years of American history by offering two “Chewie” cookies for $2.50 with any purchase of $10 or more. The deal provides a discount of nearly 65 percent of typical retail pricing, according to a June 30 press release.
“Our customers love Chewies, and this promotion is our way of giving back during America’s milestone birthday,” Chip City CEO Fred LeFranc said in a release. “We wanted to make the celebration accessible across all our locations, so whether you’re in New York or Virginia, this deal is for you.”
Corner Bakery Cafe

In honor of the United State’s 250th anniversary, Corner Bakery Cafe is offering individual bakery items for $2.50 and $50 off catering orders over $250.
Corner Bakery Cafe also squeezed margins to fit the $2.50 price tag this July, offering any individual bakery item for the same number of cents as the number of years the U.S. is old. That deal, along with a $50 discount on catering orders over $250, lasts until the end of the month.
According to a June 30 press release, the deal is available at participating locations across 18 states and Washington, D.C.
“America’s 250th birthday is a special moment to celebrate, and we wanted to mark it in a way that feels true to Corner Bakery,” Erin Hasselgren, president of Corner Bakery Cafe, said in a release. “The holiday is about gathering, sharing and celebrating together, and our goal is to make those moments feel a little easier, sweeter and more memorable.”
Krispy Kreme

Krispy Kreme customers wearing red, white and blue at participating locations across the U.S. receive a free glazed doughnut on July 4 only.
Although it now operates units in more than 40 countries, Krispy Kreme is rooted in North Carolina, where it is still headquartered, and the number of July 4 promos makes it clear that the brand did not forget to prepare for its home country’s big anniversary.
Krispy Kreme rolled out a “patriotic doughnut collection” coast to coast ahead of Independence Day, according to a June 22 press release. This year’s America-themed assortment included two new offerings and the return of two favorites: the “USA Doughnut,” “Work Doughnut,” “Freedom Ring Doughnut” and “Chocolate Ice with Patriotic Sprinkles.”
Krispy Kreme customers wearing red, white and blue at participating locations can grab a glazed doughnut at no cost this July 4.
Additionally, between July 2 and July 5, guests can add a dozen glazed doughnuts for $2.50 alongside the purchase of any dozen of 16-count mini doughnuts at the standard price. That BOGO deal extends to online pickup and delivery orders through first-party channels with the promo code “USA.”
Shipley Do-Nuts

This July, Shiply Donuts introduced a limited-time “Patriotic Pack” of red, white and blue donuts.
Shipley Donuts also brought a patriotic spirit to its menu innovation efforts this July, launching a “Patriotic Pack” of red, white and blue doughnuts with holiday-themed sprinkles.
The patriotic pastries are available through July 5 at participating locations across 13 states, according to a June 22 press release.
“The Patriotic Pack is a tribute to the spirit of this country and to the generations of guests who have made Shipley part of their everyday moments and holiday traditions,” Kaitlyn Venable, Shipley Do-Nuts’ director of culinary, said in a press release. “This summer, we have double the reason to rally behind the red, white and blue. With America turning 250 years old and the nation serving as a host country for the world’s biggest soccer tournament, we wanted our donuts to match the energy and pride people are feeling and bring some extra joy to celebrations and watch parties.”
