VP, Strategic Initiatives, Five Guys


Raphael Ortiz is vice president of strategic initiatives of Five Guys, the leader of the fast-casual burger segment, which has over 1700 restaurants worldwide. He is responsible for a number of initiatives that includes strategic development, innovations, technologies and marketplace delivery programs. He is a driving force ensuring that the founders’ vision and standards are executed in both corporate and franchise owned locations.

Raphael has successfully held several senior leadership roles in both corporate and franchise organizations. In addition to the numerous local and industry awards over the years, Five Guys was voted Harris Poll’s Burger Restaurant Brand of the Year for 2017. The company has surpassed 300 international locations in 2020 and will nearly quadruple its global footprint from 10 countries to 38 over the next four years.
Prior to joining Five Guys in 2006, Raphael was a Hub Ramp Manager for United Airlines based in Washington, D.C. He managed underwing operations for United at both Denver, CO and Washington, D.C., from 1994-2006. He began his leadership career in 1992 with United Parcel Service. He served honorably in the United States Army Reserves and was deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm.
Raphael holds a BS in International Business from Strayer University and resides with his wife and 6 children in Aldie, VA.”
