We’ve all experienced that moment in a new city, unsure of what to order or just scrolling delivery apps at home, eager to try something different. To help with this, Uber Eats is adding a social twist to food delivery, allowing users to create and share lists of their favorite restaurants and dishes.
This new feature is being rolled out in New York City and Chicago, with plans to expand to additional cities. The curated lists make it easy for users to discover, create, and share their top Uber Eats picks directly from the app.
Lists can be shared with friends or made public and have a chance to be featured on the Uber Eats home feed. Customers can also explore additional lists by clicking on the “featured lists” section on the homepage.
Users can even create lists with specific themes such as “Date Night Desserts” or “Toddler-Approved Dinners.”
This marks a first for Uber Eats. “We’ve put curation directly into the hands of Uber Eats consumers, and we can’t wait to see what you create,” the company stated.
The app will also show lists made by local food influencers, such as Sam Roby from Chicago Food Authority and the duo Ella Kahan and Emma Matarasso from Chew York City.
As the market has proven, influencer shout-outs can certainly boost business for restaurants, especially among younger generations who follow them closely.
Boosting restaurant discoverability
Like competitor DoorDash’s “Most Loved” section, Uber Eats already recommends restaurants through features like “Top Eats”— which highlights popular options based on reviews, ratings, and performance data.
With the introduction of user-generated lists, diners gain insights from fellow food lovers, giving restaurants a chance to stand out. This particularly poses an opportunity for independent eateries competing with large chains.
In the world of food delivery—especially on third-party platforms—visibility is key.
