The digital ordering and restaurant solutions company Olo has integrated with FreedomPay, one of the largest payment gateways for card-present transactions. FreedomPay supports over 1,000 POS and payment systems.
Restaurants using FreedomPay payment terminals can now easily start using Olo Pay to process card payments, regardless of their POS system. According to the company, this integration benefits most of Olo’s 700+ existing customers. This builds on Olo’s previous integration with Stripe, its underlying processor for digital payments.
Olo Pay enables restaurants to process payments and gather detailed transaction data. When paired with Olo’s marketing tool, Engage, the data can be used to create customer profiles for targeted marketing and personalized guest experiences. It also offers protection against fraud and chargebacks.
“Currently, about 18 percent of restaurant transactions are digital,” said Noah Glass, Olo’s CEO. “By processing the remaining 82 percent of in-person transactions, we’re positioning ourselves to offer a 360-degree view of each guest, combining digital order data with newly captured in-store data.”
In a previous interview with Food On Demand, Glass highlighted the importance of tracking in-person transactions, noting that many in-restaurant payments are anonymous.
“Every transaction inside a restaurant is typically nameless and faceless,” Glass explained. “The guest isn’t identifying themselves, so we miss the opportunity.”
“Restaurant brands, especially marketers, want to see every transaction tied to a guest, not just digital transactions, but all of a guest’s transactions. So they can really understand who they are, what their lifetime value is, and how they can personalize the experience,” he said.
Olo is already integrated with several POS systems, including Qu and NCR as well as kiosk providers for card-present transactions. Partnering with FreedomPay significantly broadens its reach.
