Ghost kitchen operator Kitchen United and grocery giant Kroger have opened the second Kitchen United MIX location in Texas.
The MIX location represents a lot of learnings from the company distilled into a smaller-format, high-tech location compared to some of the original Kitchen United locations. CEO Michael Montagano said grocery consumers especially like having the option of ordering restaurant takeout alongside their grocery store.
“Kitchen United MIX is proud to open our first state-of-the-art grocery installation in the Dallas area,” said Montagano. “We recently debuted our supermarket concept, and guests have been incredibly impressed with the convenience and variety Kitchen United MIX provides.”
Kroger’s Keith Shoemaker, the president of the Dallas division, said it’s the answer for hungry shoppers who might be getting groceries but are in no mood to cook.
“We are always looking for new and unique ways to help our customers answer the ‘what’s for dinner tonight?’ question,” said Shoemaker. “The collaboration with Kitchen United is special because customers’ restaurant-quality meal will be crafted while they’re shopping for the fresh food and pantry staples their families need.”
The location soft launched last week and made an official announcement this week. It’s the second Texas location under the partnership between Kroger and Kitchen United. Another MIX is planned for nearby Plano, Texas.
Eight restaurants were part of the opening including close Kitchen United partners Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop, David Chang’s Fuku along with Curry Up Now and Carl’s Jr. Local cult favorite Monkey King Noodle Company is also in the mix (pun intended). Dog Haus and two of its sub-brands—Bad-Ass Breakfast Burritos and Impossible Foods operating partner The Impossible Shop—are also available.
The mantra from Kitchen United to customers is the ability to build an order with a wide variety of food from multiple virtual restaurants to ensure everyone gets what they want while avoiding the veto vote.
Ordering is available via kiosks, online or through the Kitchen United MIX app. While customers can also order from the restaurants housed in Kitchen United MIX through various third-party delivery platforms, multi-restaurant ordering is only available through the Kitchen United MIX ordering platform.
The latest location marks No. 14 of the MIX format. Kitchen United now has 21 locations including the MIX locations.
