DoorDash is acquiring Grubhub Campus Dining from Wonder for $300 million, while also investing $125 million in Wonder’s Series D round. The September 15 deal connects the top United States food delivery provider by market share with the parent company of third-ranked Grubhub.

With the purchase, DoorDash has big plans for Grubhub Campus Dining, the Wonder-owned digital ordering platform with more than 450 college and university partners. It plans to enhance the selection and convenience available to students, and bring the platform beyond campuses, to stadiums, hotels and other venues. The transaction is expected to close by the first half of 2027.

DoorDash’s $125 million investment built on a $650 million funding round for Wonder, which acquired Grubhub for $650 million in November 2024 and Netherland-based third-party platform Just Eat Takeaway.com in 2021. In addition to a similarly named food hall chain with 157 locations along the East Coast, Wonder’s broad portfolio includes meal kit platform Blue Apron, customer acquisition startup Claim, kitchen automation technology firm Spyce and digital media company Tastemade

“Grubhub Campus Dining is a thriving business built by a great team, and DoorDash is well positioned to take it further,” Marc Lore, founder and CEO of Wonder, said in a press release. “The partnership also allows Wonder to focus on our long-term ambition: a fully autonomous food system that can plan, produce and deliver personalized meals at scale, serving all 21 meals people eat each week.”

In late 2024, Grubhub Campus Dining recorded a 28 percent year-over-year increase in order volume, while Grubhub reported a 12 percent overall decrease in North American orders. The acquisition demonstrates a push toward campuses for DoorDash.

“Our mission at DoorDash is to grow and empower local economies,” Tony Xu, co-founder and CEO of DoorDash, said in a press release. “Adding Grubhub Campus Dining to our platform will enable us to bring greater choice and convenience to college students while streamlining operations and reducing friction for universities. In addition, we’re pleased to be investing in Wonder as they continue to expand access to world-class food for communities across the nation.”
